Baja Pullover History

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
– Robert Swan, Author

We have been reprocessing textile fabrics to make garments and blankets since 1992, but the history of recycled textiles goes all the way back to the eighteenth century when they first starting recycling wool.

The traditional “Sudadera de Jerga” as they call them in Mexico, it’s known to be created over 100 year ago when people started using cheap and durable recycled mop cloths called “Jergas”.

It wasn’t until the 60’s when Hippies and environmentalists in the US noticed this environmentally friendly garments. Excess was big within that community, so that is the reason they first called them “Drug Rugs”.

But it wasn’t until 70’s that people started calling them "Baja Hoodies". This happened because the surfers in Baja California discovered that it’s unique fabric was incredibly breathable and durable; they also noted it dried well making it the perfect sweatshirt for surfing.

The history is still on the works, Baja Joe has evolved into the ultimate Baja Pullover.

Featuring beautiful color combinations and designs, our Hoodies are the softest and coolest!
